Radio Frequency Identification has a number of uses. From common goods at a departmental store to convicts and prisoners can be tracked and accounted for with the effective use of this system. Tracking of library books, birds and animals patients in a hospital all find this system of tracking effective and efficient. RFID is also used in tacking at bus stops, restaurants, libraries, departmental stores, hospitals, police badges, factory supply chains, defence units, etc. RFID in Hospitals: Especially in hospitals RFID is found to be exceptionally helpful in keeping track of new born babies. It is also proved to be helpful in the case of some Alzheimer's and handicapped patients who tend to wander off without informing hospital personnel. RFID tags in the form of bracelets are strapped onto the wrists of such patients that allow proper monitoring by both hospital personnel and patient's relatives.
RFID in Living Beings: Radio Frequency identification can even be implanted with the body of living things. These devises need to be encased in a special kind of casing so that it does not react with or irritate the skin under which it is inserted. Transparent casing will ensure easy reading and transfer of information. To prevent the device from moving around under the skin a special kind of bonding is used to secure the RFID in place.
Radio Frequency Identification devices are smaller than a grain of rice and can be placed under the skin of dogs or cattle. This is done with precision and implanted with the use of a hypodermic needle. It is generally placed between the shoulder blades for easy access and reading. This RFID device is helpful for dog owners to track their straying dogs or for cattle owners to keep a look out for their grazing animals. This device has come in very useful in the recent scare of mad cow disease as well.
Use of RFID in Libraries: RFID is widely used in libraries to keep a check on books and other items and to keep a check on getting them back on the shelves again. Book processing and lending and receiving of books is no longer a lengthy process as each book is tagged with an RFID chip to make this task easier and more efficient. For Air Passengers: With recent uncertain conditions of terrorism etc it is necessary to keep track of air line staff and passengers as well to ensure safety and effective checking and controls. Tracking of air passengers as they move around the arrival and departure lounges can be done with this system of RFID.
RFID to counter Shop Lifting: Shop lifting will now be a thing of the past as tracking of items of clothing at a clothing store will ensure that all items leaving the store undeclared will be detected by this system. Shop lifting and pilfering has lead to heavy losses. With an effective RFID system in place stores can avoid such occurrences in the future. Use of RFID in the Army: Defence personnel can keep a count of their army tanks and other defence equipment such as arms and ammunition to ensure its safety and proper cataloging so that each such dangerous and costly item is tracked and accounted for.
